The Health Occupations division at TVCC offers a variety of health care related programs which lead to an occupational skills award, certificate, associate degree or bachelor’s degree. Dedicated and qualified instructors train students to be safe, competent practitioners and provide program curricula that will prepare graduates for the certifications or licensure necessary to work in their chosen professions. The majority of the programs are offered at the newly renovated Terrell Health Science Center with additional offerings in Athens and the Palestine Workforce Education Center. applicable Texas regulatory agencies and several have earned the distinction of national accreditation. With a shortage of health care workers, the growth of the community, and the increased demand for health care, there is a great interest in the quality health occupations programs offered at TVCC. Graduates readily find employment in a variety of settings, with the majority staying in the area. The success of the programs is due to the selection processes, the desire to excel on the part of the students and faculty, and support of college administration, clinical affiliates and the community.

For students in this course who may have a criminal background, please be advised that the background could keep you from being licensed by the State of Texas. If you have a question about your background and licensure, please speak with your faculty member or the department chair. You also have the right to request a criminal history evaluation letter from the applicable licensing agency.
The curricula of the TVCC ADN and VN programs meets the Texas Board of Nursing educational requirements for professional licensure. TVCC has not made a determination if the programs’ curricula meet the state educational requirements for professional licensure for any of the other 49 states. If a student or potential student is interested to see if the curriculum meets the state educational requirements for professional licensure in another state, please contact Helen Reid, the TVCC Health Science Center Provost.
