Dual Credit at TVCC
Who doesn't want to get a jump on earning college credits while you are still in high school? Join us at the valley, and we can show you how!
Dual Credit is a process in which a high school student enrolls in TVCC courses and receive simultaneous credit for the course from both TVCC and their high school. While dual credit courses are often taught on the high school campus to high school students only, a high school student can also take courses on one of the TVCC campuses, through Distance Education, and/or through ITV, and receive both high school and college credit. Dual credit courses include both academic and technical workforce courses. These courses offer a pathway from high school to college, serving as an option to get ahead in academic degree programs or college-level workforce education courses.

HOW TO SUCCEED
Dual Credit Admissions & Enrollment Steps
TVCC's general education courses are available to all 11th and 12th grade level dual credit students, as well as many of our vocational and workforce courses. 9th and 10th grade students' options, while a little less broad, still offer various opportunities to get ahead on early college learning. To see full programs available for dual-creditors, see our catalog.
Any high school student with parent/guardian permission may enroll in dual credit courses, provided that they have met TVCC's admissions requirements. 9th and 10th grade students do have some additional testing requirements.
Tuition for up to two courses per semester is waived for dual credit students residing within TVCC's service area. Also, many area school districts may cover the cost of dual credit enrollment altogether. Other tuition costs depend on if a student lives within or without TVCC's tax paying districts; in-district students will qualify for a lower rate of tuition. See more about tuition under our Student or Parent pages.
TVCC is proud to serve the following area Independent School Districts: Athens, Athens ECHS-Pinnacle, Athens Christian Prep, Brownsboro, Canton, Cayuga, Community, Crandall, Cross Roads, Edgewood, Elkhart, Eustace, Forney, North Forney, Fruitvale, Frankston, Kaufman, Kemp, LaPoynor, Mabank, Malakoff, Martins Mill, Neches, Poetry Community Christian, Rains, Scurry-Rosser, Slocum, Terrell, Trinidad, Westwood, and Wills Point.
Just like our high school graduates, dual credit students must provide some testing scores to show college readiness if they are enrolling in courses towards a 2-year degree. Keep in mind, passing scores are not necessarily required. TVCC gives the TSI on our three main campuses. Students interested in certificate courses are often not required to submit test scores.
The dual credit orientation process helps prepare students for what college level courses will be like, as well as ensure they are both mentally and technologically prepared for face-to-face and online classes.
Once admitted as a TVCC student, dual creditors and their high school counselors will work together each semester to complete and submit their concurrent registration form for enrollment. Our dual-credit department is available to assist with class enrollment and making a plan to get and stay ahead, without falling behind.
