TVCC Faculty Association Hosts Reflective and Rejuvenating Retreat for Faculty

Faculty from Trinity Valley Community College (TVCC) campuses — Athens, Terrell, Terrell Health Science Center, and Palestine — recently stepped away from their busy academic schedules to focus on what matters most: finding new ways to better support, connect with, and inspire each other and students.
Hosted by the Faculty Association at the beautiful Silver Spur Resort in Canton, Texas, the retreat was designed around the theme "Reflect, Reframe, Renew, and Relax," offering faculty members the opportunity to grow both personally and professionally.
The three-day event featured a dynamic schedule of roundtables, workshops, and interactive sessions aimed at enhancing teaching and leadership across departments. Faculty members explored topics such as:
- Designing with All Minds in Mind: Inclusive Teaching for Neurodiverse Students
- Changes in College Classrooms: Living in a “Bruh” World
- The Joys of Teaching Your College Class at a High School
- Is Anyone Reading This? Engaging Students with Your Syllabus
- Q&A Session with Student
In addition to professional development, the retreat emphasized connection and relaxation. Faculty participated in team-building interactive activities, candle pouring and plant-making workshops, enjoyed massage chairs, and relaxed during an outdoor movie night under the stars.
The event was made possible through the hard work and dedication of the Faculty Association, which includes Angel Ellis, Tom Sheram, Jennifer Hannigan, Suzie Smith, Melanie Ward, Mary Krieger, and Carol Penland.
“A special thank you to Angel who really led this retreat for us. She has created an incredible retreat for us,” said Tom Sheram, Faculty Association President.
