Study shows TVCC is a Key Player in Local Economy

Trinity Valley Community College is making a significant impact in East Texas by helping create jobs and strengthening the local economy, according to a recent study. The study shows that TVCC not only helps students succeed, but is also a key player in the local economy.

Last year, the college supported 3,502 jobs in the region, meaning one out of every 47 jobs is connected to TVCC.

These figures come from a recent study analyzing TVCC's impact during the 2022-23 academic year. The study found that the college’s activities, along with spending by students and alumni, contributed over $184 million to the local economy and supported thousands of jobs.

"The study highlights the power and influence a TVCC education has on someone as an individual and dynamic impact it has on the college’s service area any beyond," said TVCC President Dr. Jason Morrison.

TVCC benefits the local area in several ways. The college employs faculty and staff and purchases goods and services from local businesses, adding $38.3 million to the economy. Students also make an impact, spending money on essentials like groceries and rent, which added another $4.7 million. Additionally, graduates who now work locally brought in $141.5 million, thanks to the skills and education they gained at TVCC.

"TVCC is an economic and social force. It is the cornerstone of growth and opportunity," said Dr. Morrison.

Students at TVCC also receive a huge return on their investment. Those who earn an associate degree can expect to make an average of $7,500 more per year than someone with only a high school diploma. Over a lifetime, this adds up to hundreds of thousands of dollars in extra income. In fact, for every dollar students spend on their education at TVCC, they earn back $5.80 in higher future earnings, making it a smart financial choice for their future.

"I believe the study most importantly highlights the tremendous impact our institution has on changing lives, the community, and growing our area economy," said Dr. Morrison.
